Purim Here
Purim, the festival from the
book of
Esther, started on Monday night. As
many readers of this blog may already know, one of the traditional ways
of celebrating this holiday is by dressing up in costumes as characters
from the book of Esther. Our celebration was no exception. We had a
veritable menagerie of individuals portrayed in our creatively costumed
guests. I will briefly mention the assumed identity of our guests, and
will leave it to you to look them up in the Bible.
A "puppet" show
Left to right: Queen Esther, Queen Esther, Queen
Esther, Queen Esther, Queen Esther, Queen Esther!
Back row, left to right: the "Shushan shoe-shine,"
the Persian press reporter "Ahmon Dajob," Haman's son, and Shushan citizen. In
front is the palace guard and a prince from the "western regions" of the
kingdom.
The "king's scribe" (in the red cloke) reads the
Purim story (an abbreviation of the
book of Esther) from the scroll.
As you view these pictures, remember - we don't normally dress like this!
We sang some traditional Purim songs - and had
quite a "jolly" time!
More "residents of Shushan."
The king.
Bigthan (the would-be
assassin).
As you can imagine, we had
a hard time choosing when it came time to vote on the best costumes!

Liberty Day
A couple of weeks
ago, we had a great time at “Liberty Day,” a conference and celebration
commemorating Patrick Henry’s famous “Give me liberty, or give me death”
speech. The Erber family did a great job organizing a tremendous event,
featuring lectures by Dr. Paul Jehle, music by our friends Daniel
Ziesemer and Jacob Bernhardt, and a reenactment of the second Virginia
convention in 1775, including Patrick Henry’s address. You can see
pictures of the event at the Erber blogs
here,
here, and
here.

Homeschool Conference Season
In our newsletter, we discussed the benefits of attending homeschool
conferences, and attending them not just to find a new curriculum, but
much more important, to get the vision for multigenerational
faithfulness. (If you are interested in getting our newsletter, send us
an email
with your address and let us know!)
We have compiled a list of some of the homeschool conferences in many
states by date. You will no doubt notice that some states have several
conferences, and other states are not listed here. The conferences
listed here are listed either because they are the largest conferences
in the region, or in the cases of some smaller conferences, because we
know some of the speakers to be excellent! Hopefully, you can attend a
conference and be encouraged! For those of you in Illinois, we hope we
will see you in
Peoria or
DeKalb!
